Based on the Nordic Council of Ministers’ work to involve youth in all parts of its activities, SNS and NKJ has, by the Student Network, created a platform where students from across the Nordic region can meet, collaborate, and grow together.
Purpose
The purpose of the network is to give youth from agricultural and forestry student unions the opportunity to exchange experiences and ideas. By involving representatives from each Nordic country – with a focus on gender balance and diverse backgrounds – we aim to facilitate collaboration among students at both master’s and PhD level. The goal is to increase contact and cooperation between students in agriculture and forestry in the Nordic region.
What we have done so far
We have laid the foundation for the network by proposing a structure where each Nordic country is represented by two students – one from the forestry side and one from the agricultural side – in addition to the two student members from the SNS and NKJ boards. The student unions have been contacted and selected their representatives, who met for the first time in March 2025. The plan is for the network to meet 4-6 times a year, mainly digitally, with one possible in-person meeting. The network’s meetings and activities are organised and facilitated by the secretariats of SNS and NKJ.
The future
Initially, the network will function as a working group for the secretariat’s efforts to produce a comprehensive overview of education opportunities in forestry and agriculture at the master’s and PhD level in the Nordic region – a tool designed to make it easier for students to find and apply to relevant programmes in other Nordic countries. After that, the network’s goals and structure will be shaped by the participants themselves, who will jointly decide on the focus areas and projects that are most important to pursue.
With this new network, we look forward to creating a vibrant platform for increased student influence and cooperation at the Nordic level.
