Circular Nordic Food Solutions through Microbial and Dairy Innovation (CIRC-NORDFOOD)
Coordinator: Kahala Minna, LUKE, minna.kahala(a)luke.fi
The Circular Nordic Food Solutions through Microbial and Dairy Innovation (CIRC‑NORDFOOD)) network aims to strengthen scientific collaboration across the Nordic countries, Latvia and Poland to advance sustainable and resource-efficient food sector.
While the region has expertise in microbial food and food ingredient production, bio-based side stream valorisation, and dairy innovation, research efforts remain dispersed.
CIRC-NORDFOOD brings together leading universities, research institutions, and stakeholders to accelerate progress in microbial-based foods, enhance circular use of Nordic bioresources, and improve sustainability of traditional dairy systems.
Through seminars, workshops, and researcher exchange, the network will create structured opportunities for knowledge sharing and future collaboration. The PhD course aims to engage early-career researchers and train new talents to support the next generation food system innovators. This interdisciplinary platform provides a unique opportunity to explore how emerging cellular agriculture technologies can be integrated with, rather than replace the existing Nordic food production systems.
By combining scientific insights across disciplines and countries, CIRC-NORDFOOD aims to generate science-based knowledge that provide tools to future food policy, strengthens regional resilience, and contributes to the transition towards a low-carbon, circular Nordic food system.
